Home Reading Project

Home Reading ProjectOur home reading project began at Preschool earlier this year and your child will now have received their first book for the term.

This project gives all children the opportunity to take a book home once a week, for you to share with them. Children of all ages and abilities can enjoy books, whether they are interested in looking only at the pictures, or perhaps they are just beginning to sound out letters, or if they can already read some basic words.

Spending a bit of time sharing a book with your child can help support not only their listening and attention skills, but can also help support their use of language and communication. Many of you already do this and for those of you that don’t yet share books you will be amazed at how much can come out of just a little time spent looking at and talking about the book together.

We would also like to encourage parents to visit the local library if and when you have a chance, as this too will help support your child’s development.

Patrice is the staff member who will be responsible for managing this project and together with myself, we are currently preparing to begin the project in the next couple of weeks. Parents will have the responsibility of making sure the books are looked after and returned to preschool on time.

If you have any questions about this please speak to Patrice.
