Introduction to the Director of Just for Me Preschool

First of all, I'd like to introduce myself; my name is Mrs. Chantelle Mason and I am the Director of Just for Me Preschool.

First and foremost, my role is being a Mother to my two young daughters and one son and this is where a lot of my inspiration comes from. I have worked in the childcare field for 14 years now, in a variety of roles; from working as a teaching assistant, support worker, Nursery officer, supervising contact for children in care, to being accredited as a Foster carer parent myself. I have a BSc degree in Psychology, a level three Diploma in Preschool Practice, and an Early Years Professional Status (EYPS); as well as a wealth of experience with children outside of a work environment.

After having worked in various settings, I have learned a lot; at the same time, having been exposed to standards and practices that leave something to be desired. I have often said "if I ran a setting, I'd do it this way..." and after years of studying, gaining valuable experience – and starting a family of my own - I am now about to do just that.

Being held in a church, many people would assume Just for Me Preschool is a setting just for Christians or church-goers. This is not the case; we are open to all areas of the community. My own strong Christian faith however, is something that keeps me going, keeps me inspired and gives me the ability to be bringing this wonderful educational institution to you and your families.

Our Aims

Our setting aims to:

- provide high quality care and education for children primarily below statutory school age;
- work in partnership with parents to help children to learn and develop;
- add to the life and well-being of its local community; and
- offer children and their parents a service that promotes equality and values diversity.

Parents

Our Government Funding Options

Our setting is eligible for the Government's Nursery Education Grant (NEG). This offers funding to all 3 and 4 year olds.

The funding covers up to 15 hours per week, which can be used in a variety of ways, e.g. sessions or full days.

The funding starts the term after your child's third birthday, e.g. if they turn 3 at the start of September, they will not get the grant until the January Term.

This is a great offer from the government and many families are unaware of it; also, it is not a grant that depends on your income so everyone will receive it.

Our partnership with Families

Ultimately we are here for the benefit of the children who attend our setting; however, here at Just for Me we are aware of the importance that each child's family has, in terms of their learning. As such, we aim to provide parents/carers with as much support as possible, to enable them to contribute as effectively as they can, to their child's experiences.

Looking at each child as a unique individual and helping them to achieve the best out of their preschool experience!

There are several different ways to teach children and there are constant developments taking place in the field of education. We adopt our approach from the idea that as each child is uniquely different, you cannot expect that the same methods will work in the same way, for every child. Children learn at different paces and we believe in doing the most we can to meet each child at the level they're at and helping them to move on in realistic, achievable steps. This includes providing a wide range of stimulating and appropriate learning materials and activities.
